Fern is a habit tracking app built with privacy in mind. This policy explains how your data is handled.

Data stored on your device

Your habits, completion history, and the name you enter are saved to your device using iOS's standard local storage (UserDefaults). This data is included in your device's standard iCloud or iTunes backup if you have backups enabled. It is not uploaded to us, except for the limited analytics described below.

Analytics

Fern uses PostHog, a third-party product analytics service, to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. PostHog processes this data on our behalf, and it may be stored on PostHog's United States infrastructure.

The analytics we collect include:

• Usage events — actions such as opening the app, completing onboarding, creating, editing, completing, or deleting habits, enabling or disabling notifications, using the home-screen widget, and submitting feedback.
• Habit details — the icon, color, and frequency of your habits, and whether a habit was added from a built-in suggestion or created by you. We do not collect the names you give your habits.
• Summary information — such as how many habits you track and whether you use reminders or the widget.
• Technical information automatically collected by PostHog, such as your device model, operating system version, app version, and an approximate location derived from your IP address.

This data is used only to understand and improve Fern. We do not sell it, and it is not used for advertising. To request deletion of your analytics data, email us at the address below.

Notifications

If you choose to enable daily reminders, Fern schedules a local notification on your device. No notification data is sent to any server.

Third-party services

Other than PostHog (described under Analytics above), Fern uses no advertising or tracking services. See PostHog's privacy policy for how they handle data processed on our behalf.

Children's privacy

Fern is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised date.
